LADIES and gentlemen … Start your engines, the 2016 Red CentreNATS are here! And the second “Festival of Wheels” is set to eclipse 2015’s inaugural event with a record number of competitor entries and 13,000 spectators expected to attend. The Red CentreNATS has quickly established itself as one Australia’s premier automotive events and this year will feature more than 500 elite show cars, street machines, hot rods and exotic vehicles set against the stunning Centralian landscape. The streets of Alice Springs will roar to life on this afternoon from 5.30pm as the Street Parade rolls through town lead by a growling pack of Harley Davidson’s from around the nation ahead of 400 modified vehicles. Alice Springs Harley Owners Group or HOG chapter director Craig Cassidy just couldn’t wait to catch up with fellow members from across the nation. “We’re looking forward to welcoming the HOG family into Alice Springs for Red CentreNATS,” he said. “We will be putting on a great show for the crowds and enjoying ourselves at the ultimate festival of wheels. “It will be an honour for the HOGs to lead the Red CentreNATS Street Parade on Friday afternoon and we can’t wait to be part of it.” Right after the Street Parade it’ll be time to head back to Blatherskite Park for the Rock ’n Rumble concert featuring Aussie rock legends The Angels with frontman Dave Gleeson (Screaming Jets). The gates will swing open again at 9am on Saturday as the Elite Show Cars go on display alongside their Vintage counterparts before the driving events begin at 9.30am including Grass Driving and Grudge Drag Racing at the Alice Springs Inland Dragway. The afternoon will welcome the Motorkhana to Lasseters Casino with burnout and drags action at the ASID until 10.30pm. Sunday will be a great day to treat Dad with all things automotive as the Show and Shine is awarded and the Dyno Clinic returns to Blatherskite for the ultimate horsepower comparison. As the Drags, Motorkhana and Burnouts all wind up in the afternoon the Podium Party will kick off at the Alice Springs convention centre from 6pm. The 2016 Red CentreNATS will fire up tonight with the Street Parade and run through until Sunday.
